Reduction in Excise Duty – Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Prices Dropped

The government reduced the duty on cars under the NCEMMP (National Electric Mobility Mission Plan) scheme wherein the government of India promotes the use of electric and hybrid cars. Through this plan, the government intends to bring 6-7 million hybrid/electric vehicles on the Indian roads by 2020 along with a certain level of indigenisation of technology ensuring India’s global leadership in some vehicle segments.

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz got significantly cheaper thanks to almost 50 percent reduction in excise duty levied on electric and hybrid cars. As the tax came down from 24 percent to 12.5 percent, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz got cheaper by INR 55,000 to INR 69,000 for the most expensive variant.

What is SVHS Technology?

For starters, SVHS means Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System. It is a micro hybrid system . The SHVS system uses integrated starter generator and start/stop technology along with a large capacity battery to extract maximum fuel efficiency. When the car comes to a halt, the engine is shut down and everything else works on the motor. As the driver taps on the accelerator pedal, the electric motor provides the initial energy as the engine comes to life, giving full power. It also utilizes Deceleration Energy Regenerating function where the energy wasted while the car decelerates in stored in the electrical system.
